Kumasi, Nov. 11, GNA- Rashid Saminu of the University of Ghana (UG) emerged winner of the men’s 100 meters race at the ongoing Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with a time of 10.25 seconds.
The athlete broke Benjamin Azamati’s 10.60 record at the 2020 GUSA Games after competing in a fierce race to emerge victor.
He told the GNA Sports after the race that he had been looking up to national record holder, Benjamin Azamati and was poised to give off his best for his school to achieve the height of the former GUSA champion.
“For Azamati, we all look up to him and he is our best man. Whenever I am coming into a race, he gives me all the motivation I need and see where I am today.”
He stated that, he would continue training very hard as he hoped to win gold for team Ghana in the men’s 100 meters race at the All African Games to be hosted in Ghana.
Elsewhere in the women’s 100m final, Benedicta Kwartemaa from the University of Cape Coast was crowned champion as she clocked a time of 11.39 seconds, beating the two others from University of Education (UEW) and KNUST with a time of 11.95 and 11.96 seconds respectively.
