The signing of the Peace Pact by presidential candidates in the December 7 general election is slated for Thursday, November 28, in Accra, Mr. George Amoh, Executive Secretary, National Peace Council, has disclosed.

The Peace Pact is aimed at promoting peaceful conduct among political parties in the December 7 general election.

Mr. Amoh made the disclosure during a meeting with Mr. Mohammed Lawan Gana, Resident Representative of ECOWAS in Ghana and the advanced team of the ECOWAS Election Observation Mission in Accra.

The Executive Secretary noted that the Peace Council was still working with stakeholders to address some bottlenecks towards the signing of the Peace Pact.

He said Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) had given an indication of his readiness to sign the Peace Pact.

Touching on concerns raised by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama, Mr. Amoh said the Peace Council was working hard to address these concerns.

At the meeting, Mr. Gana presented electoral funding supports to the National Peace Council, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), the Coalition for Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) and the Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA).

The funding support is part of efforts by the regional bloc under its protocol on democracy and good governance to support activities geared towards the peaceful conduct of Ghana’s December 7 general election.

The distribution of the funding support includes the National Peace Council $50,000.00; NCCE $100,000.00; CODEO $30,000.00 and FOSDA $30,000.00.

Mr. Gana appealed to Ghanaians to ensure that the December 7 general election was peaceful, free, fair and credible.
