“Reflect, Reset and Review” was the theme for this year’s event.

He explained that” Ghana’s Independence was a reset in 1957. Today, we need not another reset of freedom, but of the economy and mind-set. Resetting is not just government’s duty, but it begins with us as citizens”.

The MCD charged Ghanaians to reset their attitudes toward public property, discipline, and communal responsibility, adding, a clean street, a protected forest, were acts of patriotism.

He recalled the President of the Republic of Ghana, Mr John Dramani Mahama, during his swearing in on the 7th of January 2025 outlined in his inaugural speech four key pillars to reset the economy.

These pillars were economic restoration and stabilization, improving the business and investment environment, constitutional review and accountability and the fight against corruption.

Mr Boffour explained that one of the topmost priorities of the government was to introduce various social interventions to alleviate the current economic hardships and protect the vulnerable.

These include the free primary healthcare, sanitary pads for schoolgirls, no fee policy for all first-year students in public institutions (Universities) under the no fee stress initiative and the free tertiary education for all persons with disabilities (PWDs).

As a Municipality, the MCD said they must reset their priorities to their youth by investing in technical and vocational training, creating pathways for them to thrive in agriculture, technology, sustainable and responsible mining.

“To our farmers and Small Business Owners: We reset by improving access to markets, financing, and modern tools to grow our enterprises and to our environment : We reset by enforcing responsible mining practices and reclaiming degraded lands,” Mr Boffour stated

Mr Issah Salifu Taylor, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa Nsuaem constituency, on his part, emphasized that the reset agenda was a shared responsibility for all, not just a few individuals.

“Let’s unite beyond party lines to build a better future for Tarkwa Nsuaem constituency, prioritizing our people’s well-being and children’s future,” he  indicated

Mr Taylor also mentioned that “As we celebrate this independence day, let us embody the spirit of reflection, review and resetting. Let us commit ourselves to hard work, sacrifice and unity in transforming our municipality and by extension, our nation.

Let us remember that true independence is not just about political freedom but about economic empowerment, social development, and the ability to provide a better future for generations to come”.

In all, 750 participants, including twelve schools, cadet corps, three bands and fifty teachers, took part in the parade.

Awards were also given to students who distinguished themselves in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
