Mr Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister for Education, has commended the Two Garrison Education Unit for its contribution towards the nurturing of young minds and shaping individuals who contribute meaningfully to society.
He said the Unit had over the last six decades been a beacon of learning, fostering academic excellence, and character development of basic education level learners within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Area.

He gave the commendation in a speech read on his behalf by Professor George K.T. Oduro, the Technical Advisor to the Education Minister, at the 60th Anniversary celebration of the Two Garrison Education Unit, held in Takoradi.
The event, held on the theme: “60 Years of Holistic Education, Bridging Gaps; Building Futures,” coincided with the 50th Anniversary of the Ghana Armed Forces Teachers Association (GAFTA).

Mr Iddrisu noted that despite the limited resources and evolving complex educational demands, the Unit had remained resilient, focused, and purposeful in its mission.
He added that it continued to play a vital role in nurturing disciplined, knowledgeable, and responsible citizens who had gone on to serve Ghana in diverse capacities.
He said: “Today is a celebration of endurance, sacrifice, excellence, and vision, and a celebration of men and women who believed in education as a powerful tool for national transformation and remain committed to that belief despite changing circumstances and persistent challenges.”
The Minister said the theme for occasion captured not only the remarkable journey of the Two Garrison Education Unit but also resonated deeply with the transformative power of education and the government’s quality education agenda.
Mr Iddrisu stated that holistic education remained central to government’s educational philosophy, and that it would put in place interventions to nurture minds, build character, and empower future leaders.
He noted that the government was committed to strengthening foundational learning and promoting inclusive and holistic education through renewed stakeholder engagement, policy dialogue and strategic investments in educational infrastructure, teacher welfare, and professional development.
He congratulated the Two Garrison Education Unit and the GAFTA for the remarkable the milestones and expressed appreciation to all stakeholders who had supported their journey over the years, including the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces, Directors of Education, alumni, parents, traditional authorities, and corporate partners.
Lieutenant Colonel (Lt. Col) Saviour Hadjah, the Two Garrison Education Officer, said over six decades of providing holistic education to the people of the Western Region had seen numerous of their learners as men and women of repute doing well in various facets of society both local and international.
“Our hands are therefore strengthened and our hearts resolved, that what we have been doing, does not only give hope and purpose to the learners, but also serve as a way to bridge the uneven gaps that society or nature throw at us, as learners, facilitators or administrators,” he said.
He, therefore, acknowledge the instrumental role of the Ghana Education Service, the military high command, and all stakeholders in ensuring that the Unit achieved its vision.
