This visit builds upon the Minister’s successful engagement in Ghana in September 2024 and demonstrates the UK’s commitment to enhancing its strong bilateral relationship with Ghana under the new government.
A statement issued in Accra said Lord Collins of Highbury, speaking ahead of the inauguration said, “It is an honour to return to Ghana on this historic occasion to extend the UK’s warmest wishes to President Mahama and the Ghanaian people.”
He said his previous visit showed me the depth of friendship between our two countries and the potential to grow our partnership even further.
“The UK looks forward to continuing working closely with Ghana to advance our shared goals of driving economic growth and security and tackling the climate crisis,” he added.
Madam Harriet Thompson, British High Commissioner to Ghana, congratulated to John Mahama on his inauguration for a second term as President.
“I am confident that our partnership will continue to go from strength to strength under his leadership.
“Our relationship with Ghana matters deeply to the UK; there is much our countries can achieve together,” she said
Lord Collins will also meet Heads of State and Ministers from Kenya, Nigeria, and Cote d’Ivoire to discuss the UK’s modern partnership with Africa, trade and security.
