The accused received the money under the pretext of supplying 40 Apple MacBook laptops to the complainant.
The Court ordered that one of the sureties for Emmanuel Kofi Dawu, also known as Daniel Adjei, must justify the bail with a landed property within the court’s jurisdiction.
Dawu, 27, has pleaded not guilty.
He is alleged to have taken the money from Mr Michael Owusu Gyekye after claiming he could supply the laptops through a colleague in the United States of America.
He is expected to reappear before the court, presided over by Madam Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, on December 3.
Police Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori-Appiah told the Court that Mr Gyekye, a businessman resident of North Kaneshie, contacted Dawu in July 2025 after being referred by another client.
The accused allegedly introduced himself as Daniel Adjei and claimed he had a quantity of MacBooks available for sale.
He then provided a mobile money number bearing the same name for the payments.
Prosecution said the complainant made all payments through Mobile Money, but after receiving the final GHC40,000 in September, Dawu went into hiding and blocked all communication.
Police later traced him to his hideout at Lomnava, Sowutoum, where he was arrested.
Investigations revealed that he had operated under the pseudo name Daniel Adjei to gain the complainant’s trust.
He was subsequently arraigned after investigations.
