Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, newly elected Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has pledged to unify and revitalise the rank and file of the Party following his victory in a fiercely contested presidential primary.
Addressing supporters at the NPP headquarters in Accra on Saturday, January 31, being declared winner, Dr Bawumia emphasised the need for members to set aside their differences and forge a united front to secure victory in the 2028 general election.
“It is time to let go of all reservations and work together. We must show resilience and fortitude for the difficult battles ahead,” he said.
The former Vice President assured Party faithful that he would welcome ideas from former aspirants and stakeholders to build a formidable team capable of wresting power from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He urged members to respect the decision of the delegates who endorsed him as Flagbearer and prepare themselves for the task ahead, adding: “Whenever there is unity within us, Ghanaians return the favour by voting massively for us.”
Dr Bawumia expressed gratitude to the Almighty God, officials of the Electoral Commission, the Ghana Police Service, the NPP Presidential Election Committee, the Council of Elders and all who contributed to ensuring a successful exercise.
He also thanked his campaign team and his wife, Samira, for their unwavering support throughout the campaign.
Earlier, Mr Samuel Kwakwa, Deputy Director of Electoral Services at the EC, officially declared Dr Bawumia winner of the primary after he secured 110,643 valid votes, representing 56.46 per cent of the 195,901 valid ballots cast.
