Accra-Ghana, Dec. 2, GNA – The Black Queens of Ghana have made a bold step towards securing a place in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament with a 3-1 victory over Namibia, at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday.

With hundreds of Ghanaians booking their holiday venue at Ghana’s Wembley, the Queens knew they had an assignment to accomplish – to continue their winning streak under Coach Nora Häuptle.

A brace from Doris Boaduwaa and a superb goal from Portia Boakye sealed Ghana’s win over their opponents, as they head to the second leg with a two-goal advantage.

The Black Queens started the game being the better side as usual, mounting pressure in the early minutes of the game.

But Coach Nora’s side were held by a stubborn Namibian side who kept their defensive line clean to frustrate the home team, Ghana.

Boaduwaa stepped up as the heroine to break the virginity of the game as she took advantage of a poor defensive setup by the visitors in the 26th minute to give the Queens the lead.

Portia Boakye continued the impressive run for her side to increase the woes of Namibia with a long corner kick before halftime, which gave Ghana a 2-0 lead.

After recess, Boaduwaa was still on fire to destroy the Namibian side as she danced through the defense of Namibia in the 58th minute to slot in her second for the night.

But the 69th minute saw a poor defensive tactic from the Ghanaians, which led to a goal in favour of the opponents.

This is the first time the Ghana side has conceded under the Swiss gaffer, Nora Häuptle.

An exciting 90 minutes of play could not change the story, as the game ended with the Black Queens leading 3-1.

Ghana will play as visitors against Namibia in the second leg encounter, scheduled for Tuesday December 05, 2023 at the Locas Moripe Stadium in South Africa.
