A statement issued in Accra to mark the 2026 World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) said product safety depended on strong regulatory systems, including pre-market approvals, continuous monitoring and strict enforcement.
The Authority said this year’s theme, “Safe Products, Confident Consumers,” was a call to action, adding that it was intensifying efforts to address existing gaps.
It said it had introduced the Ghana Food and Drugs Authority Integrated Regulatory Management System (GFIRMS), a digital platform enabling businesses to track applications and consumers to verify registered products in real time.
The statement said a new Reputation Management Framework was also being developed to address misinformation and respond promptly to safety concerns.
The Authority acknowledged that many consumers remained uncertain about product safety, attributing the situation to lack of information rather than ignorance.
It called for intensified public education in markets, schools, health facilities and online platforms to enable consumers to identify genuine products and report counterfeit goods.
The FDA urged the public to verify products before purchase, report suspicious items and demand accountability, noting that a safer marketplace required collective responsibility.
“Safe products without informed consumers is an incomplete loop. Confident consumers without credible regulatory systems is borrowed confidence.
“FDA will continue to invest in systems and platforms to make regulated products safe, and consumers confident,” it added.
