Following an initiative by Mr Francis Akumatey Addo, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly building in Somanya has undergone major renovations after years of neglect.
The renovation, which included a repainting of the assembly block, has improved the appearance of the administrative headquarters.
Prior to the intervention, the building was in a poor state, with peeling paint, faded walls, and visible structural wear, raising concerns among residents, staff, and visitors.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Somanya, Mr Addo said the renovation aimed to create a conducive environment for staff and the public.
“We inherited a building that was in a very poor state, and it was important to create a decent and professional environment for staff and the public,” he said.
Several offices have been renovated and equipped with essential logistics, such as computers, printer, and office furniture to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
The MCE said the grounded assembly vehicles had been repaired to support official duties and supervision, the clock-in, clock-out attendance system had been fixed to monitor punctuality and promote discipline among staff.
“ The fixed clock-in, clock-out system will ensure that staff are punctual and accountable because discipline is key to improving public service delivery,” he explained.
He assured the public of the Assembly’s commitment to maintaining the facility and improving service delivery in line with its mandate.
Residents who spoke to GNA welcomed the facelift, describing it as a positive step towards restoring the image of public institutions in the municipality.
Assembly staff also noted that the improved working environment had boosted morale and productivity.
Although the renovation does not address all infrastructural challenges, residents are calling for sustained maintenance and similar interventions across other public facilities in the municipality.
