The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has admonished Madam Ewurabena Aubynn, the newly sworn-in Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North to be herself and not allow anyone to mislead her in decision-making.

“Don’t be misled by anyone. You fought a good fight although other people supported you and on the ticket of a party ticket.

“Be punctual, ever present, calm, listen more and learn from your colleagues. You’re the hope of the people in your constituency,” Mr Bagbin  told the new Member of Parliament.

Mr Bagbin stated that the people in Ablekuma North expected a lot from her to improve their lots, saying, “The people expect you to improve their lives. It is a trust, you don’t abuse it. You’ll go back to them again”.

Mr Mahama Ayariga, the Majority Leader, in a statement, congratulated  Madam Ewurabena Aubynn and stated that the numbers of the Majority Caucus had increased by one.

He noted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) now had two-thirds majority to take decision that would inure to the benefit of the people.

He assured the nation that the Majority Caucus would use its majority wisely and not abuse it.

Meanwhile, the Minority Caucus staged a walkout before the swearing-in of the new MP when the Speaker declined the Caucus to make a preliminary statement.

Mr Frank Annor-Dompreh, the Minority Chief Caucus and MP for Nsawam Adoagyiri, sought the guidance of the Speaker to make a statement before the swearing-in but it was disallowed.

The Ablekuma  Noŕth parliamentary election has been engulfed in electoral controversy following  the December 7, 2024 polls.  The Electoral Commission (EC) was not able to collate the results due to electoral violence.

The EC finally re-run 19 polling stations with NPP parliamentary candidate Nana Akùa Owusu Afriyie garning 33, 881 of the votes while Madam Ewurabena Aubynn received 34,090 votes to emerge victorious.

However, the re-run polls was bedeviled with political violence.
