In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the Obodan Centre, Mr. Mireku said the initiative aims to provide a comprehensive four-year training in Auto Mechanic Services, Transmission Gearbox Repair, Auto Electricals, and Auto Engine Mechanics.
According to Mr. Mireku, the goal is to empower young people, especially those without formal education or stable employment, to acquire trades that could sustain them economically and make them responsible future leaders.
He noted that a similar centre had already been established at Dome-Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region, with plans underway to expand the programme nationwide. “So far, over 200 young men and women have graduated from the centre.”
“The youth are our future, and if we equip them with skills today, they will become the responsible leaders we want to see tomorrow,” he said.
Mr. Mireku appealed to school dropouts and unemployed youth to take advantage of the opportunity.
He also urged benevolent organisations and individuals to support the initiative, stressing that government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of youth employment. “If more centres are established, it will help many parents who cannot afford to send their children to higher institutions,” he added.
