Madam Enyonam Adzo Apetorgbor, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Keta Investment Promotion Centre, has debunked the statement made by the Finance Minister on the improved water supply in Keta.

She urged Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, the Finance Minister to recheck his scripts since all he said about Keta was misleading.

Madam Apetorgbor, in an interaction with the Ghana News Agency on the Mid-Year budget review, said that contrary to the Minister’s statement, several areas including Hagodzi, Sonugbe, Anyako, and Mamime continued to struggle with access to potable water supply.

“I have taken note of the pronouncement by the Minister of Finance during the mid-year policy review of the 2024 budget, claiming that the water supply in Keta has improved. We wish to categorically deny this assertion and highlight the ongoing challenges faced by many communities in our region,” she stated.

She further stated that residents from some communities within the Keta Municipality were faced with challenges associated with accessing potable water supply.

She added that access to reliable Electricity supply remained a significant issue in parts of the area, hindering economic activities, education, and development.

“We urge the relevant authorities to address these pressing issues with urgency. Concrete steps must be taken to improve water supply and electricity access in Hagodzi, Anyako, Mamime, and other affected areas to ensure the well-being and development of our communities.”

Madam Apetorgbor called on the government to engage with local leaders and residents to better understand and address the challenges they faced.

Meanwhile, Mr Anthony Dagadu, an economist, commended the government for not introducing any new tax that would have brought another burden to the Ghanaian citizenry.

He expressed dissatisfaction about how the Finance Minister was silent about job creation among the youth, infrastructural projects, and others.

Some residents, the GNA engaged at Keta after the budget presentation, expressed worry about how the budget did not address the issues of proposed Sea Defense and others.
