Day seven of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) featured a thrilling match between Cameroon and Ivory Coast, with Algeria making it to the tournament’s last 16.

Ivory Coast 1-1 Cameroon

With over 35,000 spectators in attendance at the Grand Stade de Marrakech, the match was intense, with both teams sharing the points.

Amad Diallo gave the Elephants the lead in the 51st minute with a curling finish after cutting inside from the left.

Cameroon equalised five minutes later when Junior Tchamedeu’s shot deflected off Ghislain Konan for an own goal.

Both sides had chances to win it, with Franck Kessié and Bryan Mbeumo going close, but neither could find a breakthrough.

Mozambique 3-2 Gabon

Mozambique claimed their first-ever AFCON victory with a 3-2 win over Gabon in a Group F thriller.

Faizal opened the scoring in the 37th minute, heading in from a corner, before Geny converted a penalty two minutes later after Bruno Ecuele Manga fouled Elias Pelembe.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pulled one back for Gabon on the stroke of halftime, reacting quickest to a rebound after Didier N’Dong’s long-range effort.

Diogo Calila restored Mozambique’s two-goal cushion in the 51st minute, nodding home from Witi’s cross.

Gabon reduced the deficit again through Alex Moucketou-Moussounda in the 76th minute, but Mozambique held firm through in the last stages of the game to secure the historic win.

Sudan 1-0 Equatorial Guinea

Led by Ghanaian coach James Kwasi Appiah, Sudan earned their first AFCON win since 2012 after a 1-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea.

The match was cagey, with few clear chances until a Sudanese free kick ricocheted off Luis Asué and Saúl Coco before beating goalkeeper Jesús Owono.

Equatorial Guinea dominated possession and created several opportunities, including a near miss from substitute José Nabil, but failed to find an equaliser.

Algeria 1-0 Burkina Faso

Riyad Mahrez scored his third goal of the tournament as Algeria edged Burkina Faso 1-0 to book a place in the last 16.

Mahrez converted a 23rd-minute penalty after Rayan Aït-Nouri was fouled by Ismahila Ouédraogo.

Algeria controlled possession early, but Burkina Faso threatened through Bertrand Traoré and Issa Kaboré, whose header struck the post before halftime.

The Stallions pushed forward after the break, switching to a back four, but Algeria regained control late on and held firm to secure the win.
