Daniel Owusu Koranteng, a friend and former colleague of murdered journalist Ahmed Suale, has been remanded  ‎ by the Madina District Court.

Koranteng, also known as Nana or Amakye, a 35-year-old businessman, has been charged with murder.

The police contend that Koranteng was said to have caused the death of Suale at Madina on January 16, 2019, through unlawful harm.

The court has preserved the accused person’s plea despite having legal representation.

He is expected to reappear on April 1, 2025.

The prosecution’s case is that the petitioner (name withheld) is a relative of the deceased, Ahmed Hussein Suale, while the accused, Daniel Owusu Koranteng, was the managing director of ISPY Company.

Prosecution said both Suale and the accused were employees of Tiger Eye company, led by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

According to prosecution, the accused had multiple interactions with the deceased and his family before his death.

Tensions, however, escalated in June 2018 when Mr Kennedy Agyapong, owner of Net2TV, broadcasted images of Ahmed Suale on his network, calling for retribution against the investigative journalist.

Prosecution said Suale later identified the accused as the person who provided Mr Agyapong with his photographs.

On January 16, 2019, following the publication of the deceased’s images, he was shot and killed at Madina.

The court heard that call records placed the accused at Madina near Suale’s residence before and at the time of the murder.

Further analysis showed that later that same day, Koranteng traveled from Madina to his residence in Amasaman late in the evening at about 23:15 hours, after the murder.

During the investigation, the accused declined multiple police invitations and later fled to the United Kingdom in August 2019.

The accused later returned to Ghana and intelligence led to his arrest at Amasaman on March 15, 2025.

Koranteng admitted knowing the deceased, prosecution said, visiting Mr Agyapong and having taken photographs with the deceased but denied selling the photographs to anyone.

Police investigation is ongoing to identify other suspects in the case.
