Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Banda Constituency, has commissioned a new police station and residential quarters for the Banda Boase community in the Banda District of the Bono Region.

The facility comprises a charge office, cells, administrative offices, and four residential quarters to accommodate police personnel.

Speaking to the media as part of his thanksgiving tour of communities in the area, Mr Ibrahim, who is also the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, underscored the importance of security in the district, especially due to the presence of the Bui Dam.

“We need a district police headquarters. We have competent personnel, but we face challenges with office space for the police and immigration services. The lack of official accommodation is something we are gradually addressing,” he stated.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Peter Owusu, the Banda District Commander, said the new station brings the total number of police stations in the district to three, joining those at Banda Ahenkro and Dorbor.

He explained that until now, there was no police station between Banda Ahenkro through Banda Boase to Nsawkaw, and the new facility would therefore enhance security along the route, particularly considering recent incidents of harassment.

DSP Owusu noted that the station’s strategic location would help curb deviant behaviour and restore order and discipline in surrounding communities.

He urged residents to be law-abiding, stressing that anyone who broke the law would be held accountable.

Odeefour Dua-Bata-Bour Ligbi Wullotei II, Chief of Banda Boase, welcomed the project, saying the police station would significantly aid the community’s fight against crime and social vices.

He cited past robberies and the long distance to the nearest police station, which had emboldened criminals to attack residents.

“Over the past two years, we have experienced several robberies on our roads. Just two weeks ago, robbers invaded the community and terrorised shop owners,” he recounted.

The Chief encouraged residents to see the police as allies in protecting lives and property and urged the youth to cooperate with the police in maintaining peace and order.
