Boxing legend Azumah Nelson to serve on IMC to reform Ghana IMC Boxing

Boxing legend Azumah Nelson, has been named as Vice Chairman and the Special Technical Advisor to the Interim Management Committee (IMC) tasked with reforming Ghana boxing.
The Ghana Boxing IMC was announced on Monday, September 29, 2025 following a stakeholder engagement meeting which included the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the National Sports Authority, promoters and coaches.
Following the successful engagement, some highly astute persons have been appointed to serve on the committee in accordance with the recommendations made by the Ministerial Committee set up to investigate the death of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun.
Mr Samir Captan, former President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), would chair the IMC, while Azumah Nelson would serve as Vice Chairman.
Other members of the committee include Mr Felix Quartey, Dr Hadi Mohammed, Dr Ofori Asare, Mr Lester Kwateng, and Mr Prince Azanu, while Patrick Johnson will act as secretary to the committee.
The IMC are expected to lead the roadmap towards boxing reforms, which includes the election of new executives to spearhead the day-to-day running of the GBA.
Ghana boxing is currently on suspension following the death of young boxer Ernest Akushey, often known as “Bahubali” after a recent bout.
However, certain boxing industry stakeholders have strongly criticised the suspension, claiming that it was unlawful.
