Naba Roland Atogumdeya Akwara III, Paramount Chief of the Sirigu Traditional Area, has cautioned the youth against reckless motorbike riding, particularly along the main road through the Sirigu market.

He expressed concern over the growing disregard for road safety among young riders, who often ride at top speed without helmets, posing danger to themselves and others.

“I firmly warn motor riders, particularly the youth, not to speed around the market area where people are always present. I do not want to hear of any accident resulting from over-speeding and careless riding,” he said in a speech delivered on his behalf at the launch of his 10th Anniversary celebration and the maiden Azuko Cultural Festival.

The joint event, themed “A Decade of Leadership, Unity and Development”, brought together traditional leaders, residents, government officials, and dignitaries from across the Kassena-Nankana West District and beyond. The main festival is scheduled for December 26–30, 2025, and will showcase the area’s rich cultural heritage.

Naba Akwara III also called on the Ghana Police Service to enforce road safety laws to help reduce accidents and save lives in the community and district.

Speaking at the event, Upper East Regional Minister, Mr. Donatus Akamugri Atanga, praised Sirigu for its cultural preservation, iconic architecture, and peace. He urged the youth to remain grounded in their traditions and embrace civic responsibility.

“Azuko must not be a yearly affair but a symbol of ongoing cultural consciousness, civic responsibility, and creative enterprise,” he said, encouraging natives abroad to return and support development initiatives in education, health, and job creation.

Mr. Atanga described the Azuko Festival as a powerful tool for reconnecting generations, boosting tourism, and preserving heritage, particularly at a time when modernity threatens traditional values.

He reaffirmed government’s commitment to partnering with traditional authorities to strengthen decentralization, promote peace, and accelerate development.
