Tema-Ghana, June 7, CDA Consult – Emergency medicine specialist Dr. Barbara Ayesha Anawana Karbo has urged businesses to keep first aid supplies on site to protect the requirements of their workers and customers in case of an emergency.
The International Maritime Hospital (IMaH) in Tema’s Head of Accident and Emergency Department, Dr. Karbo, emphasised that companies must consider the health needs of their employees by designating a health corner where they keep the first aid kits with a dedicated person in charge.
The recommendation was made by Dr. Karbo during the regular “Your Health! Our Collective Responsibility! A project of the Tema Regional Office of the Ghana News Agency sought to improve health literacy while fostering discussion on health-related issues and providing a platform for the dissemination of health information.
The Ghana News Agency Tema Regional Office created the public health advocacy platform “Your Health! Our Collective Responsibility! to investigate the parameters of the four ways to health communication: informing, teaching, persuasive, and urging.
Dr. Karbo, who was speaking on the subject of “First aid at home and basic life support,” also encouraged parents, especially those who are nursing, to personalise first aid packs to meet their family’s unique medical needs.
Dr. Karbo emphasised that since every family is unique and has particular requirements, such as those pertaining to allergies, medications, and medical problems, it is essential to customise the first aid pack.
“What you need is to know your family; you have a child; children will catch viral infections and get fevers, so paracetamol syrup and sypocitrate; if the child has asthma, you have a spare inhaler,” emphasised the need of having first aid supplies in every household.
also emphasised the need of having a full first aid kit on hand so that one could respond quickly and effectively to any accidents or injuries that might occur at home before travelling to the hospital for a thorough medical assessment.
The welfare of the family can be greatly impacted by keeping a first aid kit on available as well as the appropriate prescriptions for minor injuries including cuts, scratches, burns, and sprains, according to the IMaH Accident and Emergency Specialist.
In particular, if your child has asthma or any allergies, she emphasised that parents have the right to ask for an additional prescription for any medication their child usually takes.
“Your Health! Our Collective Responsibility” is a part of a cooperative effort to create a channel for the dissemination of health information in order to influence individual health decisions by raising health literacy, according to Mr. Francis Ameyibor, Regional Manager of Ghana News Agency Tema.
He added that it intends to educate the public about the value of everyone’s health and the need for it to be given priority by utilising the communication skills of the Ghana News Agency and medical experts.
According to Mr. Ameyibor, both parents’ and children’s health should be taken into consideration, as well as the health of workers and employers, the general public, and health professionals.
He noted that everyone needed to be involved in order to have a healthy society.
Mr. Ameyibor pointed out that everyone needs to care for other people’s welfare in order to have a healthy society.
The weekly health debate platform, according to Mr. Ameyibor, will also be utilised as a useful channel of communication for health specialists to inform the public about healthy behaviours and other general health issues.
