Simpa (W/R)-Ghana, Feb. 5, GNA – Mr George Mireku Duker, the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, has cut the sod for the construction of an artificial turf at Simpa in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency of the Western Region.
The project, to be executed by BLAG Ghana Limited, at a cost of GH¢2 million, is expected to be completed in May, 2023.
“Although l have built two astro turfs at Dompim and Cyanide , l decided to build one at Simpa and even extend it to other communities because l want to promote sports in my constituency,” Mr Duker said.
When completed, it would provide a state-of-the-art training grounds for young footballers to grow and sustain their sporting career.
He urged the contractor to work with the local human resource to ensure that the project was completed on schedule, adding: “this will help provide direct and indirect jobs to the unemployed youth in Simpa.”
The Deputy Minister, also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, was assisted by the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Benjamin Kessie, and Tufuhene of Simpa, Nana Kwaku Aseidu, to cut the sod.
Mr Kessie praised the MP for the initiative and urged the youth interested in building a football career to take advantage of it, when completed.
Nana Aseidu chaired the function and expressed gratitude to the Minister for fulfilling his promise to construct an astro turf for Simpa.
Mr Eddie Dankwa, the Chief Executive Officer of BLAG Ghana Ltd, the construction firm, assured of building the turf to meet international standards.
