The management of Diamond Cement Ghana Limited has appealed to the government to urgently construct the access road leading to its factory to support production efficiency and boost sales.

Mr. Tati Ramaro, the General Manager of the company, made the appeal during a visit by the Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, to the factory on Monday, June 16, 2025, as part of his working tour of the Ketu South Municipality.

He said the current state of the two-kilometre stretch from the Aflao Police Station to the factory premises at Akporkploe was severely affecting the movement of heavy-duty trucks and slowing down operations.

“We spend about GHS 500,000 annually to patch the road just to keep it motorable. This cost is taking a toll on our operations, reducing productivity and profitability,” Mr. Ramaro said.

He added that despite the company’s tax contributions to the government, Diamond Cement has also created numerous job opportunities for residents and remains committed to its corporate social responsibilities in education, healthcare, and other critical sectors.

“We are located in a rural area that needs support, and through our operations, we are contributing significantly to the local economy. What we need now is for the government to step in and help us by constructing this road to sustain our operations,” he stressed.

In response, the Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, assured the company of the government’s commitment to supporting industries under the 24-Hour Economic Policy initiative.

He said the government recognises the role of existing factories like Diamond Cement in driving economic growth and job creation and is working to address infrastructure challenges affecting them.

“The road to the factory will be constructed, along with several others in the Ketu South Municipality and across the region,” Mr. Gunu stated.

He mentioned that under the President’s “Big Push” infrastructure agenda, key roads including the Tokor-Ho Road would be developed to improve connectivity and support industrial activity.

Mr. Gunu assured the company that upcoming government projects, such as the sea defence works and other major infrastructure developments in the Volta Region, would increase the demand for cement, creating opportunities to expand production and improve sales.
