Three drivers alleged to have robbed a female passenger of her iPhone 14 after threatening her with a knife have been granted bail by the Adenta Circuit Court.

The accused persons, Charles Kofi Nti, Richard Osei and Lawrence Sosu, were each admitted to bail in the sum of GHC12,000 with two justified sureties.

The court granted the bail after counsel for the accused applied, stating that all three had pregnant wives and fixed places of abode within the court’s jurisdiction.

Defence counsel argued that the accused would not abscond, as they had families dependent on them and persons willing to stand as sureties.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, did not oppose the bail application but prayed the court to ensure that the sureties were justified to guarantee the accused persons’ attendance in court.

The case has been adjourned to April 8, 2026.

The three accused have pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit crime, namely robbery, and robbery.

According to the prosecution, the complainant, Charity Akweley Ayitey, resides at Nanakrom near Ashalley Botwe in Accra.

Nti, the first accused, resides at Amasaman, Osei, the second accused, at Pokuase, while Sosu, the third accused, resides at Kasoa.

The court heard that on November 18, 2025, at about 0830 hours, the complainant boarded a taxi from Adenta Third Gate to Adenta Aviation Pharmacy on her way to work.

Prosecution said the accused, travelling in a yellow and black Toyota Vitz with registration number GW 6612-25, picked up the complainant, with Nti driving and Osei and Sosu as passengers.

Upon reaching the Aviation Pharmacy, where the complainant intended to alight, the accused allegedly drove past the spot despite her request to stop.

The prosecution said Nti allegedly locked the vehicle doors and asked the complainant to force them open, claiming they were faulty.

Osei is alleged to have pulled out a knife and demanded the complainant’s iPhone 14, which she surrendered out of fear.

After taking the phone, the accused allegedly sped off.

The complainant later reported the incident to the Police, leading to the arrest of their during investigations.

Prosecution said the accused persons admitted the offence in their respective caution statements.
