The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Krobo District, has commended some residents of Odumase Krobo for the initiative to apprehend some personnel they deemed were tempering with the company’s transformer in their area.

Mr Christopher Apawu, the District Manager, ECG, told the media that some personnel from third-party contractors of the Company were on Wednesday, March 13, found removing a wire mesh around one transformer at Odumase Krobo when they were accosted by the residents.

The police subsequently informed the ECG District of the development and “the District Team then went to the police station and identified the personnel, based on which they were released,” he said.

He noted that his outfit later explained to the residents that the ‘’suspects” were indeed subcontractors of the ECG required to replace all wire mesh around the company’s installations with cement block walls.

The District Manager lauded the proactiveness of the residents and their swiftness in handing the personnel to the police instead of taking the law into their own hands.

The “ECG always says that we are working with the public, and we need the public support to help us keep watch over our installations, which are all over and in public spaces; so, this comes as a very welcoming development as it indicates that our educational engagement programmes are being received well enough,” he said.

He said the third-party contractor had also been informed of the development and had been instructed to ensure that all his workers would have the district management contacts to give to the residents in case of such incidents.

Mr Apawu encouraged residents to report anyone they were doubtful of to the police rather than taking the law into their hands.
