Electrochem encourages groups to utilise tributor scheme

Electrochem Ghana Limited, a salt mining company in the Ada Songor lagoon, has encouraged groups to seize the opportunity to do business from the company’s tributor (out-grower) scheme.

It also requested the public to refrain from encroaching on the evaporators of the salt mine, as it would not only interrupt the flow of proper brine into the pans for their salt mining businesses but also was illegal and violated the Minerals and Mining Act of the Republic of Ghana.

“We kindly remind everyone to refrain from encroaching on the evaporators. These structures are essential to ensuring the proper flow of brine across our concession’s operations. Any interference poses challenges to our operational design and efficiency as well as the destruction of brine quality for tributors and community pans schemes,” it added.

The company stated this in a press release dated December 30, 2024, noting that the “Out-growers, as part of our unwavering commitment to enhancing the local salt value chain, we encourage all registered groups and businesses under the Tributor Scheme to continue utilising their allocated lands. To date, approximately 50 registered entities, including businesses, CBOs, NGOs, CSOs, and cooperatives, have applied through the scheme.”

It added that out of these, 17 groups had successfully completed their required legal business documentation and had been allocated land by Electrochem Ghana under the supervision of the Minerals Commission, with the remaining groups still in the process of compliance.

“We urge all approved tributors to focus on their designated areas and maximise opportunities during this season. As discussed in our meetings, our technical team is always available to provide support and guidance to ensure the success of your operations,” the statement added.

The company also encouraged communities managing the community pans to focus on effective maintenance and management of their pans to help maximise yields in the mining season.

It asked the out-growers to engage directly with the company, noting that they appreciate their cooperation in safeguarding these critical assets.
