President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says Ghana needs the principles of hard work, humility and stewardship that have been exhibited by the Presbyterian Church in their 196 years existence in the country.

He said such principles, which have transformed the church not only as one of the largest denominations but a church that had stood firm as a guardian of righteousness and justice, when imbibed, would also bring the needed transformation that Ghana needs to move forward.

The President said this at the Bicentennial Anniversary Launch and service of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) on the theme: “PCG @ 200: Celebrating God’s Faithfulness and Impacting Generations through the Gospel.”

He said as President, he had often drawn strength and wisdom from the Word of God and reflected that faith and governance must work hand in hand for a nation to progress.

“Proverbs chapter 14 verse 34 reminds us that righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people… It is this pursuit of righteousness that must continue to drive us individually and collectively as a nation,” the President said.

He commended the PCG for its contribution in key areas including education, health care, social justice and shaping the social, moral and intellectual development of society.

“The Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s contributions to our nation are unparalleled…schools such as the Presbyterian Boys Senior High School, the Aburi Girls Senior High School and numerous others across the country is a testament to the church’s commitment to nurturing generations of responsible citizens,” he said.

Rt Rev Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, Moderator of the General Assembly of the PCG, in a sermon, said, the Church had served God and mankind well and promoted the Christian faith, values and practices in the country.

He said the church was not ready to sacrifice their ground of morality for anything, adding that they had become a blessing to Ghana in areas of health, education and agriculture and by laying a foundation for the acceptance of the Christian faith and its growth since it was the first to introduce the Christian faith in the country.

The Moderator urged President Akufo-Addo to assent to the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill since the Supreme Court had dismissed the suits against the bill.

The President donated Gh¢ 50,000 to support the preparation of the Bicentennial Anniversary celebration, which is scheduled for 2028. A Bicentennial Anniversary cloth was outdoored for all Presbyterians across the country to patronise it.
