The Global Media Foundation (GloMeF) Ghana, a human rights and media advocacy non-governmental organisation is implementing the two-year project to promote rights and dignity of children.

It sought to enhance access to education and child protection within cocoa-growing communities and to tackle emerging socio-economic challenges that impede the holistic development of children.

The main objective of the sought to address child labour and exploitation, school-dropout rates and children’s limited access to basic learning resources.

Speaking at separate ceremonies at Maabeng and Maafo, both cocoa growing communities in the Municipality, Mr Raphael Godlove  Ahenu, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the GloMeF highlighted the relevance of education, saying it remained a powerful tool in breaking the cycle of poverty.

He said the presentation would greatly inspire the school children to stay in schools, easing the financial burden on parents and guardians as well.

“The intervention is part of our broader commitment to ensuring that children in cocoa communities enjoy their right to education in a safe and supportive environment”, Mr Ahenu stated.

He said that: “When children have the tools they need to learn, their confidence improves and their future prospects become brighter”.

Mr Ahenu explained that the implementation of the Rights4Cocoa Project was being funded by Unifor Canada “whose support has been instrumental in advancing child-centered interventions within cocoa-growing communities in Ghana”.

He said: “Through the partnership, GloMeF continues advocating responsible cocoa production that prioritizes the welfare, education, and rights of children”.

Mr Ahenu reaffirmed GloMeF’s dedication to working with basic schools, communities, and development partners to promote children’s rights, social justice, and sustainable community development.

Authorities at the beneficiary schools thanked the NGO for the gesture that would enhance teaching and learning.

Some parents also praised the implementation of the project and called for sustained collaboration towards educational development and child protection in the municipality.
