GNA’s Elsie Appiah-Osei wins Best Online Parliamentary Reporter Award

Ms. Elsie Appiah-Osei, Chief Reporter of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), has been adjudged Best Online Parliamentary Reporter at the 2025 Parliament Media Soirée and Recognition Awards held in Accra on Saturday.

The honour celebrates her exceptional contributions to parliamentary journalism, where she has distinguished herself with insightful and timely coverage of Ghana’s legislative proceedings.

With over three years of experience as a parliamentary correspondent, Ms. Appiah-Osei has consistently delivered accurate and engaging reports that deepen public understanding of parliamentary affairs.

Other award winners included Rachel Quartey of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), who was named Best TV Parliamentary Reporter; Ernest Kofi Edu of the Daily Guide, Best Parliamentary Reporter (Print); Kwaku Asante of Joy FM, Best Radio Parliamentary Reporter (English); and Emmanuel Akorli of Peace FM, Best Radio Reporter (Twi).

Paul Egbenya of Channel One Television won Best Parliamentary Cameraman, Frank Bruce of Odikro Media was recognised as Best Social Media Parliamentary Reporter, while Awudu Mahama received a Long-Service Award for his dedication as a Parliamentary Correspondent.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, underscored the critical role of the media in sustaining the country’s democracy, describing the media as a bridge between Parliament and the citizenry.

He emphasised that the media was an integral part of Parliament and urged journalists to uphold high standards of professionalism and ethical values.

Mr. Albert Kwabena Dumfuor, President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), commended Parliament for recognising the vital role of the media in Ghana’s democratic process.

He urged legislators to protect press freedom and resist laws that stifle free expression, while reaffirming the GJA’s commitment to promoting responsible and ethical journalism.

The Parliament Media Soirée and Recognition Awards is an annual event that acknowledges outstanding contributions by journalists and media practitioners who promote transparency and accountability in Ghana’s democratic process.
