Mr Gabriel Dziedzorm Dzikunu, Assembly Member of the Keta Central Electoral Area, together with the Unit Committee members, have rendered accounts to residents on developmental activities undertaken in the area during the 2025 year under review.

The meeting brought together Unit Committee members, opinion leaders, youth leaders, and the public.

It was aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and community participation in local governance.

The gathering provided a detailed overview of interventions and progress made in governance, sanitation, education, security, and livelihood empowerment, while also outlining action plans for the new year.

According to Mr Dzikunu, the period under review recorded strong community engagement, with three community meetings and three General Assembly meetings held to ensure that the voices and concerns of residents were adequately represented at the district level.

“Community engagement remains central to our work. These meetings allow residents to contribute directly to decisions that affect their lives,” he stated.

On sanitation, the Assembly Member reported that the community organised more than seven community-wide clean-up exercises, alongside area-based initiatives with a focus on the Keta beachfront and the central market, areas considered critical to public health, tourism, and local economic activity. Both youth and elderly residents actively participated in the exercises.

A major highlight of the report was the Assembly’s success in qualifying for GHS10 million following the District Performance Assessment Tool (DPAT) evaluation.

The funds are expected to be invested in improvements to the Keta Market and selected roads within Keta, interventions projected to enhance mobility, boost trading activities, and stimulate overall economic development in the area.

In the educational sector, Mr Dzikunu announced that three additional teachers have been posted to Keta E.P. School through sustained lobbying efforts. He added that advocacy is ongoing to secure the School Feeding Programme for the school, as well as the construction of a canteen facility for the Nursing and Midwifery Training College and the Keta Zion School bridge to improve access and safety.

Plans are also underway for the establishment of a modern public library in Keta Central, aimed at promoting literacy, research, and academic excellence among the youth.

To improve security, the Electoral Area received some streetlights from the Assembly, complemented by two additional units donated by some benevolent community members. Keta Central also benefited from the “Light Up Keta” project, which led to the installation of new streetlights at strategic locations within the community.

On livelihood empowerment, they announced that one seamstress from Keta Central was selected to participate in the pilot phase of the National Apprenticeship Programme and has been provided with the necessary tools to support her trade. Engagements are also ongoing with non-governmental organisations to secure further empowerment opportunities, particularly for women and the youth.

Mr Hope Amegashie-Afeku, a Unit Committee member, called on residents to continue supporting local leadership in diverse ways to accelerate development within the community.

A detailed financial statement of accounts was also presented to the gathering, highlighting key gains made through the community’s revenue generation materials, further reinforcing transparency and accountability.

Mr Dzikunu reaffirmed his commitment to the people of Keta Central.

“While notable progress has been made, sustained collaboration with all stakeholders remains essential to achieving inclusive and sustainable development,” he assured.

The meeting marked another significant step towards strengthening trust, accountability, and participatory governance in the Keta Central Electoral Area.
