A high-powered delegation of Chinese investors on Saturday January 31, inspected the proposed Keta Harbour enclave as authorities in the Volta Region intensify efforts to attract large-scale industrial investments.

Mr James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, joined traditional rulers and municipal officials in Keta to welcome the delegation, which is exploring strategic business opportunities in the region.

The engagement forms part of ongoing initiatives by regional leaders and traditional authorities to forge long-term industrial partnerships aimed ataccelerating economic transformation.

Led by Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, the delegation toured the proposed harbour site to assess its potential for major industrial installations.

Discussions centred on the feasibility of establishing an ultramodern oil refinery and petrochemical facilities, leveraging hydrocarbon prospects identified within the Keta and Volta basins.

Togbe Afede was accompanied by senior chiefs including Torgbui Tenge Dzokoto Gligui VII, Paramount Chief of Amugo-Wego and Dufia of Anyako, as well as other traditional leaders.

Also present were the Member of Parliament for Keta, Mr Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, and the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Wisdom Seade.

Regional and district officials joined the chiefs in briefing the investors on the economic significance and emerging opportunities associated with the proposed industrial projects.

Addressing stakeholders, Togbe Afede reaffirmed his commitment to collaborating with government, traditional authorities and investors to promote sustainable development in the Volta region.

He noted that national progress is grounded in unity, shared purpose and collective effort.

He emphasised that the envisioned industrial initiatives aim not only at infrastructure development but also at community empowerment and broad-based economic growth.

“Our vision is not only to build projects, but to build opportunities for our people,” he said, stressing that youth development remains central to the region’s long-term agenda.

Togbe Afede expressed confidence that sustained cooperation among leaders and investors would boost living standards and enhance economic prospects across the region and the country.

He also supported a call by Torgbui Tenge Dzokoto urging young people to cultivate discipline and acquire relevant skills to position themselves for expected job opportunities.

He said the region’s future depends on a well-prepared workforce capable of supporting emerging industries and contributing to sustainable prosperity.
