The Ghana Police Service says it has received the forensic report on the rifle allegedly used by the police officer in the Kuntunse murder case.

Inspector Alice Adjei who held brief of Chief Inspector Apewah Achana, said the Police were yet to forward a duplicate docket to the Attorney General for advice.

The prosecution therefore prayed for a date.

The Kotobabi District Court 2 presided over by Ms Ama Adomako Kwakye adjourned the matter to October 28, 2024.

Constable Gyekyi Smith is accused of murdering one Stanley Ahadzi over alleged transport fair dispute at Kuntunse, Amasaman in Accra.

The court has preserved his plea.

On September 30, 2024, the Police informed the Court that they had conducted forensic examination on the rifle and were waiting for the report.

Prosecution case was that on August 18, 2024, at around 4:00am, the Police received information that a male adult has been shot at the frontage of Koans Estate at Satellite Kuntunse near Amasaman in the Greater Accra Region.

The Court heard that when the Deputy Superintendent of Police Adamu Muniru, Adjin Kotoku Crime officer and Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and the night Monitoring officer and case investigator, Leticia Aseidu, arrived at the scene, they discovered a 25-year-old adult, named Stanley Ahadzi, dead and in a supine position with blood oozing from his head.

Prosecution said Constable Gyekyi who was using his private car for commercial purposes “picked” one Esther Owusua from Ablekumah-Joma to Koans Estate, Kuntunse Satellite, around 3;00 am on the same day.

According to the prosecutor, while on their route, Owusua, a witness in the case, got lost and contacted Ahadzi, now deceased, who agreed to meet them at Koans Gate.

The Court heard that, when Ahadzi arrived at the Koans Estate Gate, a quarrel ensued between him and Constable Gyekyi over the fare.

Prosecution said during the argument, Constable Gyekyi became annoyed, pulled his side arm, gave a warning shot, and later shot Ahadzi to death.

The Court heard that Constable Gyekyi reported himself to the Amasaman Divisional Police and he was detained.

Prosecution said during investigations, Constable Gyekyi admitted the offence.
