Accra-Ghana, Nov. 15, GNA – Nilex Corp Company Limited, producers and suppliers of medical equipment, has donated 100 pieces of Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVR) to the Ghana Health Service (GHS), in Accra.
The AVR’s worth GHc 1 million would provide protection for most sensitive medical equipment of hospitals across the country and help maintain their optimum nature.
Mr Alex Osei-Owusu, Legal Director, Nilex Corp Company Limited, said the presentation was in furtherance of the partnership between the company and the GHS, as donors and suppliers of very sensitive medical equipment to the Service.
He said based on research, it had been identified that the frequent power fluctuation in the country was the major cause of breakdown of medical equipment hence the need for the company to donate these voltage regulators to serve as a source of protection for most sensitive medical equipment like gas concentrators and other laboratory equipment.”
“Instead of flying more engineers into the country to fix these machines when they break down, we have decided to provide these regulators that will be a backup for the machines to enable them last the test of time.”
Mr Osei-Owusu said, in addition to the donation, the company was ready to install these regulators at selected hospitals on the directions of the Ministry of Health and the GHS and was ready to support government in protecting these sensitive equipment.
“There are other partnership agreements by the Company just to ensure that technical staff of GHS will benefit from training from the company and its partners abroad.”
The Legal Director appealed to the Ministry of Finance and the Ghana Revenue Authority to wave some of the duties charged them, anytime they import medical equipment to be donated to the MOH or GHS.
“The duties charged on these imported medical equipment could actually purchase 40 percent of the equipment for many more hospitals to benefit.”
Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, Director General GHS, receiving the items, expressed appreciation to the company for the continuous support over the years, saying these regulators were going to be helpful not only in keeping the system working all the time but also making sure that the frequent breakdowns do not occur anymore.
He said, “these regulators will be able to protect the machines for them to be functional even during power fluctuations and keep the system working all the time.”
He assured the company that the regulators would be distributed to where they were needed the most, especially in the rural areas where more fluctuations were experienced and no engineers to fix the machines during a break down.
