Kumasi-Ghana. Nov. 11, GNA – The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi has received 98-electric beds worth $ 3,000, from the Asanteman Association of Chicago, USA.
The beds are expected to prevent the situation where pregnant women in labour are sometimes made to sleep on the floor in the second largest referral hospital in the country.
It will also ensure quality maternal healthcare by allowing good blood circulation, prevention of varicose veins and infant mortalities.
Nana Addai Baffour, Asantefuohene of Chicago, during the presentation indicated that, the donation was in response to an appeal made to them by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene during one of his visits to Chicago.
He said the group had adopted the A2 maternity block of KATH and had earlier on presented 35 of the electrical beds to them.
According to him, the Association plan to in the near future, donate MRI machines and dialysis equipment to the hospital.
He pledged the support of the Association to the maternity block and any department of the hospital as and when the request from the hospital reached them,
Madam Georgina Afua Sam, Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services at KATH, said the group renovated the A2 maternity ward in 2020 and presented some medical items to the Manhyia Hospital.
She said the hospital was serving not only the Ashanti Region, but other regions as well as neighbouring countries and that the beds had helped solve the lack of beds problem.
Madam Sam asked for more of such gestures and called on other organisations and philanthropists to emulate.
