The Obuasi Area of the Church of Pentecost, has donated essential items worth GH₵ 30,000.00, to the inmates of the Obuasi and Ahinsan Local Prisons.

The assorted items included bags of rice, sugar, maize, beans, boxes of meat, crates of eggs, celling fans, toothpastes and brushes, slippers, and others.

The outreach programme was led by Prophet David Kankam Beditor, Area Head, Church of Pentecost, Obuasi, who said the church recognizes the importance of showing love and care to those often forgotten by society.

He said the church had established a department known as the Prison’s Ministry, which was mandated to cater for those in prison custodies by sharing the word of God with them as well as catering for some of their social needs.

“As the scripture said, when the son of man comes in his glory, He will gather all the nation and separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, then He will say to those on his left that depart from me, for I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me, Matthew 25: 43 “.

Prophet Beditor pointed out that the church believed that every individual, regardless of his or her circumstances, deserved to be treated with dignity and respect.

He again stated that the motive behind the kind gesture was a way of showing love to those in prison as the scripture demanded and to tell them how God loved them.

The church, he said, plans to continue its outreach programme, exploring ways to provide ongoing support to prisoners and their families.

He made an appeal to all churches, non-governmental organizations, and individuals to go to the aid of the prisoners and help provide them with some of their needs.

Assistant Superintendent of Prisons (ASP), Mr Price Asante-Yeboah of the Obuasi Prisons, who received the items, expressed gratitude to the church and said such gestures impacted positively on the morale and rehabilitation of the inmates.

“We appreciate the church’s kindness and generosity,” he stated.

He said the donation would go a long way to improve the upkeep of the inmates.

ASP Asante-Yeboah made a passionate appeal to other churches, NGOs and individuals, to come and support the Obuasi Local prison with food stuffs and most especially, drugs, which had become an urgent need of the prison service.
