Naana Awudu Akiti I, the Queenmother of the Korgbor Clan in the Ada Traditional Area, has organised a five-day free health screening exercise for residents of Ada and its surrounding communities, to promote preventive healthcare and early detection of ailments.

The exercise, held at the Sege Old Health Centre, attracted more than 600 participants, including market women, teachers, students, security personnel, Okada riders and media practitioners.

The programme, organised in collaboration with the Ghana Eye Project 2026, provided services such as fasting blood sugar screening, cataract surgery and pterygium eye surgery, particularly targeting vulnerable persons who could not afford specialised medical care.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the event, Naana Akiti said the initiative was part of her commitment to improving the well-being of her people and supporting government efforts to enhance access to quality healthcare at the community level.

She explained that the health exercise was her first major outreach programme since assuming office and pledged to make it an annual activity to help reduce preventable illnesses and improve the quality of life of residents in the Ada area.

Naana Akiti expressed appreciation to the Ada Traditional Council, the Ada West District Health Directorate and the medical personnel who volunteered their services to ensure the success of the programme.

She also acknowledged the support of sponsors, including Slydoncee Ventures and the Ghana Association of Health Services (GAHS), for their financial and logistical contributions.

Prophet Daniel Tewiah Dzanie, the Leader of The Divine Healer’s Church No. 4 and President of the Prayer-Camps Leaders Association in Sege, commended the queen mother for her vision and selfless service and urged residents to take advantage of such initiatives to prioritise their health.

Some beneficiaries who spoke to the GNA expressed gratitude to the organisers, noting that the free services had helped them detect health conditions they were previously unaware of.

Miss Diana Agyemani, a student of Ada Senior High Technical School (ASTECH), thanked Naana Akiti for the initiative and prayed for her long life, wisdom and strength to continue serving her people.

The programme underscored the importance of community-led health interventions and the collaborative role of traditional authorities, health institutions, private organisations and faith-based groups in advancing public health in the Ada Traditional Area.
