Abura Tuakwa (C/R)-Ghana, Nov. 22, GNA – Residents of Abura Tuakwa in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese-District (AAK) of the Central Region are unhappy about the deplorable state of their roads which possess danger during emergencies.

As such, residents want the government to quickly intervene and fix the roads.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Francis Nkrumah, the caretaker of the town said the major road network connecting Abura Tuakwa to the Cape Coast-Assin Fosu road junction, had been in a bad shape for decades.

He said the road had further deteriorated as a result of heavy downpour experienced in the community of late.

Mr Nkrumah noted that reliable and dependable roads aided in facilitating free movement of goods and people, supported economic growth, enhanced access to education and healthcare and connected people to their families.

Some commuters explained to GNA that they often had to alight midway and trek the rest of their journey each time there was heavy downpour.

Car owners said they spent more on car maintenance due to the poor road network whilst residents say the dusty nature of the road had health complications to them.

Mr Nkrumah appealed to the government to fix the roads and provide the community with a market as well as an ICT centre.

Mr Mark Gyasi, Engineer of AAK District said plans were underway to reshape some of the roads in the district.

When contacted, Mr Willyevans Obiri-Awuah, District Chief Executive of AAK appealed to the residents to exercise restraints as the Assembly worked to reshape Abura Tuakwa roads in 2023.
