Dambai (O/R)-Ghana Aug 26, GNA – There was near fisticuffs between the Oti Regional Minister, Mr Joshua Makubu, and agents of Mr Alan Kyerematen and Mr Kennedy Agyepong, candidates in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Super Delegates Congress at the Catholic Secretariat, venue of the congress at Dambai.
The altercation stemmed from the alleged insistence by Mr Makubu to take his mobile phone to the voting arena, which was vehemently opposed by Mr Solomon Donkor and Mr Bewuha Adum, agents of Kyerematen and Agyepong, respectively.
The Party’s guidelines to the security agencies was to scan all delegates at the entrance and disallow any of them from taking his or her phone into the voting area.
The duo and other supporters joined in the argument, which nearly resulted into fisticuffs but for the presence of the security, who assisted to quell the high tempers.
On the arrival of the regional minister, Mr Donkor and Mr Adum, the national advance team coordinator for Kennedy Agyapong, and other supporters raised concerns and tried to prevent the minister from taking his phones to the voting area.
Mr Adum told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the Minister violated the party’s regulations by sending his phones, which should not have been the case.
The GNA could not, however, speak to the Minister to elicit his position on the matter.
