The Star Old Students Association (SOSA) has organised a two-day prayer session for final-year pupils of the Star Junior High School preparing for the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Mr. Kwadwo Baah, the president of SOSA, told the Ghana News Agency that SOSA had been organising the ‘Stars in Worship’ for the pupils for the past eight years.

He said the programme aimed to motivate the pupils to excel academically, provide counselling on exams and study skills, and enlighten them on life after junior high school.

He noted that it also helped the pupils overcome their fears and anxieties while encouraging them to find profitable pursuits after school.

According to him, the association believed that this initiative was their way of giving back to the school that made them who they were today.

He emphasised the importance of motivating and encouraging pupils and students to excel and find their purpose in life.

Mrs. Stella Afriyie-Ankrah, an alumnus, noted that today’s pupils and students faced numerous distractions, including parental neglect, peer pressure, and social media pressures, which can hinder their purpose.

Mrs. Afriyie-Ankrah said she believed that by sharing their experiences, they could help shape the minds of the school and empower them to achieve their purpose, emphasising the importance of giving back to their alma mater.

“We want to help them understand that they too can rise and shine, despite the challenges they face,” she said, adding that “we believe that with confidence and the spirit of God, they can achieve their dreams and make a positive impact in the world.”

Mrs. Felicia Akpene Dogbe, the headmistress of the school, expressed her gratitude to the alumni for their support and encouragement and advised the candidates to do their best, to stay focused, and to rely on God’s guidance.

She cautioned the BECE candidates against engaging in exam malpractice while encouraging them to finish their exams with integrity and come out with flying colours.
