Among the various Christmas events was the Westside Carnival, popularly known as the Ankos, the biggest entertainment event, which was held on December 25 and 26.

The exciting annual Ankos Festival brought together many indigenes and revellers clad in colourful costumes that brightened every corner and streets of Takoradi.

Marching through the streets, the over 30 masquerade groups displayed amazing dance moves, with brass bands and trumpeting of local songs to spice up and increase the excitement of those who stood across the roads and balconies to look on.

Each of the masquerade groups, which comprised of both young old people, wore different types of eye-catching costumes to display their culture through artistic and fancy performances.

Mr. John Ato Arthur, a masquerader, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that Ankos Festival made Christmas celebration special and fascinating in the city of Sekondi-Takoradi.

He said the festival presented an opportunity for members of the various masquerading clubs to come together to enjoy themselves and have fun, while preparing for the next year.

Other musical concerts were held in some of the clubs and pubs where residents thronged those centres to witness stellar performances from artistes based in the city.

Highlife artiste, Joseph Nkrumah Buabeng, known in the musical scene as Nero X, thrilled patrons with his energetic stage performance at the 2023 edition of Anaji Fest.

Nero X performed a host of his songs including his hit single “Osey” during the event.

Meanwhile, there are other musical programmes lined up throughout the Christmas period, including “Potomanto Festival” scheduled for Thursday,  December 28, at Sekondi.
