Tamale-Ghana, March 6, GNA – Tamale Girls Senior High School (SHS) Cadet has been adjudged the Best in Drills in the cadet category of the 66th Independence Day Parade in Tamale on Monday.
It was the only female cadet represented at the parade among five other cadets.
Vittin SHS placed second, with Ambariya SHS placing third in the same category.
This year’s celebration is on the theme: “Our Unity, Our Strength, Our Purpose”.
The parade comprised a band, eight contingents from the six security services of the country, 24 contingents from basic, Junior High and Senior High Schools as well as voluntary organisations.
It was commanded by Major Raphael Asante Ansong from the Six Infantry Battalion.
The Northern Regional Minister and other dignitaries inspected the parade, after which the contingents marched past the dais with drills that formed an art of “Ghana @ 66”.
Other categories that were awarded for good drills and marching skills were the primary, junior high school, SHS and voluntary organisations.
Nhyira Kings and Queens Primary emerged winners at the primary category, followed by the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Primary and Bagabaga Demonstration Annex Primary.
Kamina JHS won the JHS category while Bagabaga Ridge JHS came second, and the Sakasaka JHS, third.
For the SHS category, Presbyterian SHS placed first, while the St Charles SHS Seminary and Kalpohin SHS placed second and third, respectively.
The National Teachers Ladies Association topped the voluntary organisations category, followed by the Ghana Red Cross Society and the Ghana Scout Association.
Special awards were presented to the Savelugu School for the Deaf.
Imoro Safia Nyanba, a pupil of the Police Barracks Model School, who recited a poem on this year’s Independence Day theme, was recognised.
Alhaji Shani Alhassan Saibu, the Northern Regional Minister, urged Ghanaians to be patriotic to propel the development of the country.
