The Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly in the Western Region has commissioned the District Road Improvement Project (DRIP) at Nyanso, to address road network challenges within the municipality.

In a brief address, Mr Benjamin Kessie, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) said through the DRIP, the Assembly had gotten a grader, roller compactor, back hole, water tanker, tipper trucks and concrete mixers.

The MCE appealed to the residents to unite and help protect the equipment when they were dispatched to work in their community, adding that, “I don’t want us to record any unfortunate incident like batteries to the equipment had been stolen or siphoning of fuel as it happened elsewhere”.

“The DRIP is strictly for road construction. If you have a mining site, please look elsewhere for machines to rent for your work. Any staff who uses the DRIP equipment for illegal mining activities will be sacked immediately,” Mr Kessie warned

Mr George Mireku Duker, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa Nsuaem constituency, who doubles as the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, stated that introduction the of DIRP was a blessing to his constituency as more roads would now be made motorable.

He said the government was concerned about roads in the country and with this equipment they would ensure deplorable ones were fixed to promote all forms of activities in his constituency.

Mr Duker called on those who would be managing the DRIP equipment to start work on roads in Nyanso, Essamang, Nkran and Kedawene.

Mr Charles Nuamah, Assistant Urban Roads Engineer, thanked the government and said the DRIP equipment would make them discharge their duties more effectively.

He said his outfit currently had an operation plan in place and would be moving from one electoral area to the other, adding, “We will ensure the regular maintenance of the equipment so it last longer to benefit the residents of Tarkwa Nsuaem”.

Nana Korankye Panyin III, the Chief of Essamang, on behalf of other Chiefs in the municipality praised the government for initiating the DRIP to help improve upon roads in the country.
