The school was adjudged the first by the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council in recognition of its great achievement in the parade competition to mark the 66th Independence Day parade in Tema.

The Tema East MP gave the commendation when the authorities of the school presented the prize to him at his office.

Mr Odamtten, MP for Tema East Constituency, praised the students, headmistress, and staff for helping to improve Tema’s, and particularly the constituency’s, image.

He went on to say that the educational system in the country was geared to help pupils enhance their intellectual and vocational abilities.

“When you go through basic school, we expect you to demonstrate literacy, numeracy, and any talent you have, so some of you will have technical skills, life skills, and things that will allow you to start life after secondary school,” he said.

Mr Odamtten stated that in order for these expectations to be met, a proper climate, a teaching technique, the availability of learning and teaching materials, and good management were all required.

He emphasised that the school’s current track record demonstrated that pupils will achieve academically provided they are given a solid foundation and a conducive learning environment.

The MP praised the administration of the institution for taking risks and pushing themselves to achieve.

Madam Theresa Kpontsu, headmistress of Oninku Drive Number One Junior High School, said she learned how to empower and promote the well-being of her kids through an online course organised by MUSHAF under the Israeli government.

She went on to say that, as a result of the dynamics, the school administration had a tremendous influence, resulting in the children’s exceptional accomplishment.

She stressed that one of the key reasons for the school’s success during the parade was the students’ discipline.
