The Veteran Administration, Ghana (VAG) has outdoored its ultra-modern clinic with a call to Ghanaians to commit to the wellbeing of the veterans.

Mr Kofi Amankwa-Adu, Deputy Minister of Defence, who made the call, said: “Together, we must ensure that the Administration lives up to its mission of improving the welfare of veterans and widows.”

“As we Officially commission the VAG Clinic today, let us reflect on the sacrifices of our veterans and renew our commitment to their well-being,” he said.

He said the clinic was more than just a building but a symbol of hope and a testament to stakeholders’ shared commitment to the well-being of those who served Ghana with courage and loyalty.

“For many Veterans, access to quality healthcare has been a challenge and this facility seeks to reduce the burden on the 37 Military hospital.” Mr Amankwa-Adu said.

The Ministry of Defence and the Government of Ghana, he said, remained unwavering in its support for the veterans, through projects such as the clinic, thus the need to reaffirm a dedication to honouring their sacrifices.

He pledged that beyond healthcare, government was working to strengthen and improve other support systems, including pensions and other income generating ventures through the development of VAG lands.

“I assure you that the Ministry of Defence will continue to support VAG to expand and enhance services for veterans across the country.”

The Deputy Minister said the clinic would serve as a beacon of hope and a reminder that Ghana does not forget its heroes.

Mr Amankwa-Adu said “This is a proud moment not only for VAG but for the entire Nation, as we recognize and address the healthcare needs of our gallant veterans who have sacrificed so much in service to Ghana.”

He commended VAG Governing Board for its vision in bringing the project to fruition, adding that its unrelenting commitment to the betterment of the welfare of the veterans was deeply appreciated.

He thanked governmental agencies, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), other security services, private institutions and individuals who contributed especially through the poppy appeal for funds to build the clinic.

The Deputy Minister commended the Ministry of Health for supporting the facility with modern diagnostic equipment and the GAF Medical Directorate for making available medical staff to operate the clinic.

Captain Retired Ben Edmund Duah, Executive Director of VAG, was relieved that the old, dilapidated clinic had been changed into a modern facility.

Plans are underway to renovate residential accommodation for staff from the 37 Military Hospital who would assist, man and operate the clinic, he said.

Mr Amrich Dag-Godly, Chief Executive Officer of AP Senergy Company Limited, contractors for the project, said they were glad to have been part of the project’s facelift, adding that it was also an opportunity to support the national agenda.
