Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, at the weekend paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, Ya-Naa Abukari Mahama II, and the Yoo-Naa, Abdulai Yakubu Andani.

The visit was to convey his profound gratitude to the two revered traditional leaders for their support, particularly during his parliamentary vetting process about a year ago.

Mr Gunu recalled that the Ya-Naa and the Yoo-Naa dispatched a distinguished delegation to join chiefs from Asogli, Akpini, Anlo State, Avenor and the Volta Regional House of Chiefs in solidarity with him during the vetting.

He described the gesture as deeply humbling and a clear demonstration of confidence, unity and mutual respect between traditional leadership and state governance.

The Volta Regional Minister was accompanied by family members, friends, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman for the Savelugu Constituency, Alhaji Sasa, and the Volta Regional Zongo Caucus Coordinator of the NDC, Hajia Hawa Tahiru.

Also present was Mr Samed Gunu, a former Member of Parliament for the Savelugu Constituency, who joined the delegation in paying respects to the Dagbon traditional authorities.

The visit followed the successful performance of the funeral rites of the late Savelugu Gunu, Gunu Yiri II, and the subsequent coronation of his successor, Alhaji Alhassan Abdulai Gunu, at the Yo-Barigu Palace.

Mr Gunu also used the occasion to inspect ongoing works on the new Gbewaa Palace and commended efforts aimed at preserving Dagbon’s rich cultural heritage and traditional institutions.

Ya-Naa Abukari Mahama expressed appreciation for the visit and called for sustained collaboration to strengthen peace, while prayers were offered for a reign of wisdom, peace and prosperity.
