Kumasi-Ghana, Nov. 11, GNA – National long distance record holder, William Amponsah has set a new personal record in the men’s 5000 meters category at the 2022 Ghana University Games after clocking a record time of 14:14 seconds.
Amponsah came back strong to break his personal record of 14.19 seconds which was set in the 2020 edition of the GUSA Games.
The athlete represented Ghana at the just ended Commonwealth Games, and the Great North Run in the United Kingdom as well as the recent Kushea Marathon last month and fought hard to deliver once again to beat some other top athletes to win gold for the University of Education (UEW).
Samuel Oduro of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) grabbed Silver with a time of 15.02 whiles University of Ghana’s Arthur Ismael also finished third, clocking 15.15.
Known to be one of the best performing long distance runners in Ghana, UEW’s Koogo Atia could not get his best time but finished fifth place behind Seidu Salifu of University of Ghana.
Atia was disappointed with his performance, but was confident to bounce back as Ghana prepares to host the 2023 All African games.
