The Women’s Wing of the Islamic Mission Secretariat (IMS) has presented quantities of food items and second clothing worth GH¢45,000 for the upkeep of the inmates at the Ankaful Muslim Prisons in the Central Region.
According to the wing, the donation was aligned to the “Ramadan Prison Inmates Feeding Project” it initiated in 2019 to support the feeding of the inmates, and observed during the annual Ramadan period, as part of their social responsibility in giving back to society.
The items comprise 24 bags of rice, six bags of sugar, five bags of maize, several bags of gari and cassava flour, bags of millet, gallons of cooking oil, palm oil, as well as bags of salt, onion and beans.
Others were cartons of tomato paste, fresh tomatoes, boxes of tins of fish, crates of eggs, spices, bunches of plantain, and tubers of yam as well as bales of second-hand clothing, non-alcoholic beverages, wrappers and washing powders.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview on the sidelines of the presentation, Hajia Mariam Suleiman Nketia, the Secretary to Wing explained that wing remained dedicated to support health facilities, children’s homes, prisons, and psychiatric facilities through individual contributions from members and donor support.
She said: “The Ramadan is one of the key pillars of Islam, and a festive season to renew faith and commitments to Almighty Allah.

She added that it was therefore imperative for the wing to show love and care to the vulnerable in the season.
Hajia Nketia urged Muslim youth to remain disciplined and avoid unhealthy lifestyles, as they went through the Ramadan.
The Wing later counseled the inmates and asked them to adhere to the Islamic teachings and to be reformed to facilitate their successful reintegration into society after they had served their respective sentences.
