Arla Foods, producers of the Dano Milk brand, has marked this year’s World Milk Day with a breakfast treat for more than 600 pupils of the St. Thomas Catholic School in Obuasi.

The company also used the occasion to launch a new educational campaign to promote healthy eating habits among schoolchildren.

The Dano Milk Schools Programme is being rolled out in the Ashanti Region.

It aims to reach about 20,000 children in 60 public basic schools. The campaign is focusing on teaching pupils the importance of eating well and drinking quality milk.

The initiative responds to growing concerns about child malnutrition in Obuasi, especially acute malnutrition.

The school was selected not only because of its location in one of Arla Foods’ key operational zones, but also because of the nutritional needs in the community.

During the event, Mr Wilson Agbeko, Marketing Manager of Arla Foods Ghana, said the company’s goal was to support children with quality nutrition.

He said: “Every child deserves to experience the joy and benefits of starting their day with a nutritious meal enriched by Dano Milk.”

Mr Nana Osei Tutu Gyebi, Regional Manager for Ashanti, Bono and Northern Regions, spoke on behalf of the Managing Director of Arla Foods Ghana.

He explained that good nutrition is essential to learning. “A nutritious breakfast sets the foundation for a successful day of learning.

“It fuels young minds, enhances concentration, and enables children to reach their full potential.”

He added that the Dano Milk Schools Programme was not only a celebration of the power of milk, but also a long-term investment in Ghana’s future – the children.

Milk is widely recognised as one of the most complete natural foods. It is rich in essential nutrients such as calcium, protein, vitamin D, potassium and phosphorus.

These nutrients support bone development, muscle function, and overall growth, especially in children.

Regular consumption of milk also helps to improve brain function, immunity and energy levels.

Arla Foods reaffirmed its commitment to promoting wellbeing in Ghanaian communities through good nutrition and healthier lifestyles.

World Milk Day is celebrated globally on June 1 every year to recognise milk’s role in nutrition and to promote sustainable dairy production.

This year’s celebration was held under the theme, “Celebrating the Power of Milk”.
